This Sunday, September 14, we welcome Methodist Deaconess Catherine Inserra to Grace Church as Guest Preacher. Catherine is a leader at Kids Above All (KAA), a Methodist-affiliated, child-serving agency building better lives for children since the late 19th century.
It was in Lake Bluff that Deaconess Lucy Rider Meyer founded what many of us know as the Children's Home or Orphanage in 1894. That organization flourished in the 20th century and transformed into ChildServ, and ultimately KAA. It has always been tended by Methodist deaconesses, and Catherine carries that role as she builds mission partnerships with faith communities all across Chicagoland. Click on the bio file attached for more information, but also note that it is Kids Above All we work with at Christmastime (and beyond) by providing gifts for children in need.
Deaconess Inserra was here last spring when the Lake Bluff Museum presented a History of the Children's Home and she is looking forward to returning to the site of KAA's origin. The photo here shows Catherine standing with the (lifesize!) cut-out portrait of Lucy Rider Meyer herself in our own Fellowship Hall!
Please join us in welcoming Catherine back on Sunday!
